This 1961 Lotus Elite was originally owned by Wing Commander Tony Bates who was a British Engineer and entrepreneur. He was big in the Lotus world founding MK 14 Components. They specialise in supplying parts for Lotus Elites. Apparently in 1962 he bought one, restored it to a high standard and won several awards.

Tony was awarded a MBE for his services to the club and preservation of the Lotus heritage, an important person within the Lotus world.
